The 6th Annual Pori Jazz Kids Festival kicked off the Pori International Jazz Festival in the picturesque Finnish west coast city of Pori on Saturday, 17th of July. The 5-day-long kids festival offered 91 different types of musical workshops, concerts and performances on three different stages.
The Pori Jazz Kids Festival is a real success story with its over 20000 visitors again this summer and over 2000 children performing under guidance of professional musicians and tutors. Access to all concerts and workshops is free. The International Pori Jazz Festival together with some partners are sponsoring the whole event. Svenska Kulturfonden supported the Swedish Day on Monday the 19th of July.
This year's main theme was "Exotic Rhythms and Instruments". Caribbean Steel Pans, Cuban Sway, Soul Music and Hot Balkan Rhythms took the audience around the world. Renowned artists such as Sanni Orasmaa and DJ Jean-Peter gave Master Classes in Vocal Jazz and DJing at Palmgren Conservatory. The Swedish Day on Monday the 19th presented Swedish-speaking Finnish young musical talents with Svarvar Allstars Band on the grand stage Lokki-lava and Amélie Goes to Belgrad was the concert that you could not miss!
Palmgren Conservatoiry's musical workshops, master classes and music play schools for kids of all ages offered wonderful opportunities to explore new musical boundaries. And after all the hard work, the best thing of course was to perform in concerts on the grand stage Lokki-lava on the last day of the Pori Jazz Kids Festival 2010 on Wednesday, 21st of July. Bianca Morales was also this year the producer of the Pori Jazz Kids Festival.
